Low density expansion for Lyapunov exponents

چکیده

In some quasi-one-dimensional weakly disordered media, impurities are large and rare rather than small and dense. For an Anderson model with a low density of strong impurities, a perturbation theory in the impurity density is developed for the Lyapunov exponent and the density of states. The Lyapunov exponent grows linearly with the density. Anomalies of the Kappus-Wegner type appear for all rational quasi-momenta even in lowest order perturbation theory.

Long-time-tail Effects on Lyapunov Exponents of a Random, Two-dimensional Field-driven Lorentz Gas

We study the Lyapunov exponents for a moving, charged particle in a two-dimensional Lorentz gas with randomly placed, non-overlapping hard disk scatterers placed in a thermostatted electric field, ~ E. The low density values of the Lyapunov exponents have been calculated with the use of an extended Lorentz-Boltzmann equation. In this paper we develop a method to extend these results to higher d...

Appeared in Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems, 3 (1997), 433-438 EXPANSION RATES AND LYAPUNOV EXPONENTS

The logarithmic expansion rate of a positively invariant set for a C1 endomorphism is shown to equal the infimum of the Lyapunov exponents for ergodic measures with support in the invariant set. Using this result, aperiodic flows of the two torus are shown to have an expansion rate of zero and the effects of conjugacies on expansion rates are investigated.

A Formula with Some Aplications to the Theory of Lyapunov Exponents

We prove an elementary formula about the average expansion of certain products of matrices. This permits us to quickly reobtain an inequality by M. Herman and a theorem by Dedieu and Shub, both concerning Lyapunov exponents. Indeed, we show that equality holds in Herman’s result.

Lyapunov Exponents and Transport in Self-organized Criticality. Typeset Using Revt E X

We discuss the role played by the Lyapunov exponents in the dynamics of the Zhang's model of Self-Organized Criticality. We show that a wide part in the spectrum (slowest modes) is associated to energy transport in the lattice. We give in particular bounds on the first negative Lyapunov exponents in terms of the energy flux dissipated at the boundaries per unit time. We then establish an explic...

The Lyapunov Exponents for Schr Odinger Operators with Slowly Oscillating Potentials

By studying the integrated density of states, we prove the existence of Lyapunov exponents and the Thouless formula for the Schrödinger operator −d2/dx2 + cos xν with 0 < ν < 1 on L2[0,∞). This yields an explicit formula for these Lyapunov exponents. By applying rank one perturbation theory, we also obtain some spectral consequences.
